Does ATC provide separation services to VFR aircraft in Class D airspace?

In Class D airspace, air traffic control (ATC) does not provide separation services for Visual Flight Rules (VFR) aircraft. Instead, pilots of VFR aircraft are responsible for their own separation from other aircraft.
